It has become increasingly popular to hire a car to arrive in style at your prom!

Car hire costs can be expensive, but most companies are competitive so do shop around for the best price. If guests are friends they may wish to consider sharing a car to keep prices down and arrive in the car they really want. There are lots of websites so check out all the cars on offer and make sure they are fully licensed and insured. Always ask if they have experience in providing cars for prom nights and ask to see pictures from past events.

If you don’t think a car is in your budget, ask around for family or friends who may be able to oblige with a suitably grand car to make your arrival in! For bigger groups all travelling together, you may wish to consider coach hire? Again, ensure that the companies are fully licensed as this service requires an Operators License, a Vehicle License and a Drivers License to comply with the Road Safety Act 2006. Anyone offering any vehicle to carry passengers unlicensed is uninsured and risks prosecution.

Nothing is more important than the safety of your pupils. Please always ask for evidence of the following before confirming any booking.

  1. Private Hire Licences for their vehicles – which proves that vehicles have passed exhaustive independent safety checks.
  2. Private Hire Licences for their drivers – which proves that drivers have undergone enhanced CRB/DBS checks and regular medicals.
  3. Always ask for evidence of a Private Hire plate number.
  4. An Operator’s Licence – which proves compliance with other statutory administrative rules and regulations.

Limousines must be run by a properly licensed Public Sector Vehicle (PSV) operator and have the correct PSV licence for the vehicle. These licences are issued by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) so get the license details and double check with the DVSA .Telephone number 0300 123 9000

Unlicensed companies break the law by accepting paid bookings, and will not have the statutory insurances to cover Prom runs.

By following these simple checks, you’ll ensure that kids aren’t exposed to unnecessary risks, and that Proms will not only be fun, but safe too.
